A modern Pettit & Sevitt Lowline house #4 – Beams and Oils

General, Sydney House - Original

Beautiful Oregon beams are a notable feature of P&S and many other modernist homes from the Sydney School period, to post-and-beam styles across the world… most notably in Japan, on the US Pacific West Coast, across the land to New Canaan and back to Palm Springs although, many Palm Springs houses used metal deck ceilings and white painted beams – something many purists will say is a confusion of modernist styles when applied to Pettit & Sevitt homes.

We restored our beams with a lovely Ebony oil by Sikkens, and applied this to the new Oregon beams to sourced for the extended eaves, to match. Many P&S homes had a dark brown, black or natural beam finish – original specifications used Acorn Oil in Umber or Black (no longer in existence).

How lucky we were to find Le Corb LC3s to restore! Needs a good foam re-fit.
Added bedroom and retained beams
BEFORE: Furniture before being rearranged, the process is constant. Lounge needs some TLC. Beams before being refinished, looking a bit rough after all the dust and building work around it!
