Our lovely doors are restored, with an exacting match to the original green of the house, it still plays with the eucalyptus trees outside, and softens the mood when moving from the quiet zones of the bedrooms to the active zones of living, dining, kitchen and family room.
So many people have commented on how calming this colour was in the P&S house they grew up in, and we couldn’t agree more. Our kids became attached to it.
We loved the original handles and they looked like Arne Jacobsen copies or, rather, local equivalents.. not quite as curvy and beautiful but similar. We could not find the same for replacements. So an iconic D-handle was chosen, mainly because I have a habit of hanging things on doors. Many were variants were designed in the 1960s and 70s but the original streamlined L and Ds were designed by Dane, Knud Holscher.

If you plan to do this yourself as we did, the doors should be lightly sanded first to give it a clean and some “tooth”. Then primer depending on what you have on it, especially if it was previously a varnished door. Then Low Gloss Aquanamel for the paint as doors often get a beating and need to also hold up well in bathrooms. It should be applied with a fine fibre roller, not the same roller used on walls. Don’t over work it… and ask the Bunnings experts about the right roller.
